St. John Vianney School is a member of the Grand Rapids Area Catholic Elementary School sports league. This league offers competitive team play for grades 5-8 throughout the school year against other area Catholic schools. Our students learn the fundamentals required to play effectively, but more importantly they learn what is expected to play fairly and exhibit sportsmanship that shows our faith in practice. We are proud of our athletes, win or lose, because of the spirit they show.
Learn-to-Play, not Pay-to-Play
St. John Vianney School has a full-size gymnasium, and an on-site football, soccer, baseball and softball field. Our SJV Boosters run concessions (indoor and outdoor) and our annual Lenten Fish Fry. All proceeds cover league fees, uniform purchases, facility maintenance and improvements avoiding the need to charge pay-to-play fees. Sports are another great extension of our school family.
Our sports program offers the following team sports:
Boys: Soccer • Basketball • Football • Baseball • Track • LaCrosse
Girls: Soccer • Basketball • Volleyball • Softball • Track • Competitive Cheer • LaCrosse

The purpose of the St. John Vianney Athletic Program is to complement the home, church and school in the development of the “whole person.” Activities of the program are for the benefit of the students, suited to their age and physical growth.
The aims of the program are to:
The program is not intended to be the proving ground for high school, college, or professional sports. The program is developmental in its approach and should never
harbor a “win at all costs” attitude.
